Process

From the block to installation

The block chosen at the quarry, the survey on site, cutting, handwork, inspection and installation. Six steps followed by one workshop, in Lanciano.

  1. Selection

The block chosen at the quarry, from five countries.

  2. Templating

On-site survey, templates to the millimetre.

  3. Cutting

Milling machines and CNC follow the veining, read by eye.

  4. Hand

Inlay, carving, basins hollowed from solid stone.

  5. Inspection

    Every piece checked and crated.

  6. Installation

Lamar's team on site, in Italy and abroad.

Six steps

One hand, from the first cut to the job site

  1. Slab of veined grey marble freshly cut from the block

    Selection

The block chosen at the quarry, from five countries.

Marble, stone and onyx come from five countries. The block or slab is chosen at the quarry, looking at colour and veining before any cut is made.

  2. Statuario slab with the oval outline of a top traced from the template

    Templating

On-site survey, templates to the millimetre.

On site, every measurement is taken and templates are prepared: each piece is drawn on the real space, to the millimetre.

  3. Freshly cut inlay pieces on the workbench

    Cutting

Milling machines and CNC follow the veining, read by eye.

Milling machines and CNC cut slabs, profiles and inlays. The position of each cut is decided by reading the veining by eye, so book-matched slabs stay continuous.

  4. Stone surrounds and elements carved by hand in the workshop

    Hand

Inlay, carving, basins hollowed from solid stone.

Inlays, carved surrounds, washbasins hollowed from a solid block: what the machine cannot do is done by hand, in the workshop.

  5. Inspection of a marble stair element before packing

    Inspection

    Every piece checked and crated.

Every piece is inspected before it leaves the workshop, then packed and crated for transport.

  6. Completed IATA reception, Geneva Airport

    Installation

Lamar's team on site, in Italy and abroad.

The Lamar team installs, in Italy and abroad. On job sites run with Helvetic Building Management, the partner coordinates the site and checks compliance with SIA standards.

Machines and hand

Two ways of working, one workshop

Machines

Since 2002 the factory in the Zona Artigianale of Lanciano has added milling machines and CNC to the chisel: precise cuts, complex profiles and repeatable inlays, even on large-format slabs.

Washbasin hollowed from a block of solid stone, in the workshop

Hand

Carving, inlay and finishing remain manual. Every washbasin begins as a solid block, hollowed in the workshop: the veining stays whole, in all its depth.
